Grapefruit Margarita

This is the perfect grapefruit margarita. Crafted with fresh pink grapefruit, tequila blanco, orange liqueur, agave syrup, and plenty of fresh lime juice. It’s served on the rocks. Then finished with a spicy tajin rim that sets this cocktail apart and makes it irresistibly good.

I’ve been obsessing over the perfect grapefruit margarita since I visited The King Shark in Pecos, Texas. If you’re ever in that area, you need to go there! I can’t stop thinking about their food.

I’m still working on my authentic Mexican cuisine skills. But I have mastered the art of the perfect grapefruit margarita! The best way to serve a grapefruit margarita is on the rocks. I’ll also include instructions for a frozen one if that’s your thing.

I’ve done dozens of tests so that you don’t have to. Read on, and I’ll show you the perfect proportions for making grapefruit margaritas at home!

Ingredients

Silver tequila, orange liqueur, agave syrup, lime, and grapefruit.

Fresh Squeezed Pink Grapefruit Juice is tart, acidic, sweet, and astringent. It pairs so well with tequila lime and agave! Plus, it’s so pretty.

Silver Tequila. I prefer silver over gold tequila in a grapefruit margarita. It is a prettier color after mixing. It’s a matter of personal preference.

Orange Liqueur like Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or Gala Gala sweetens the margarita. It also adds an extra layer of citrusy flavor.

Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice is tart and acidic. It gives the margarita its signature flavor and is mandatory. I’ve tested this without lime to see if the grapefruit can replace the lime. It doesn’t work. Margaritas need lime!

Agave Nectar or agave syrup is sweet and more complex than simple syrup. It also complements the flavor of the tequila.

Use Tajin Clasico Seasoning and a Wedge of lime to rim the glass. The tajin provides a spicy kick and an extra punch of acidic lime. It truly sets this drink apart! I have a Tajin rimmer because we use this stuff all the time! You can pour some tajin into a dish and dip the glass in if you don’t have a container for making a tajin rim.

Ice cubes. The best way to serve a margarita is on the rocks!

Start by preparing your glass. Use a rocks glass or a margarita glass. Rub a lime wedge along the edge of the rim to moisten it. Then, dip the rip in a shallow dish of Tajin. Gently press it in a circular motion to coat the rim. You can use margarita salt instead if you prefer.

So pretty!

Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.

You’ll want to juice your grapefruit into a separate container before starting. Trying to juice it straight into a cocktail shaker is very messy. Ask me how I know. 🙂
