Easy Simple Syrup Recipe

Make this simple syrup at home with only 2 ingredients: sugar and water. It’s a must-have for cocktail making and perfect for sweetening iced coffee!

Homemade simple syrup in a mason jar.

I always have a jar of this stuff hanging out in my fridge. It’s so handy to have around for easy sweetening. And a must for many cocktails like strawberry daiquiris or love potion

Simple syrup is a very simple concoction of equal parts sugar and water. It’s a ready-to-use, dissolved sweetener used in cocktails. You can also use it to sweeten iced coffee!

Brush a thin layer of it on top of cakes too! It works great on a cake that won’t be frosted, such as a pound cake. I like to use it to help keep cakes fresh. You can make a cake (or cupcakes) the night before and brush them with simple syrup to keep them from drying out.

If you’re looking for a flavored syrup, try making strawberry simple syrup!

Ingredients

Use equal parts sugar & water. Regular granulated sugar and sugar in the raw both work fine. Using 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water keeps it simple. You scale it how you like!

How to Make Simple Syrup

Add the sugar and water to a saucepan and stir over medium heat until dissolved. Let it cool to room temperature, and it’s ready to use.

Stirring sugar and water together in a small pot.

Store it in the fridge for about a month. I like to make a batch to keep at all times!

A mason jar makes a perfect storage vessel. A pint-sized jar works great for the amount this recipe makes.
