Fall Simmer Pot

This fall simmer pot will fill your home with a heavenly fall scent. It smells like a pie is baking in the oven.

Apples, oranges, cinnamon sticks, peppercorns, cloves, ginger, and vanilla in a Dutch oven of water.

Simmering a pot of fruit and warming spices on the stove fills the entire house with a comforting fall scent. The simmering pot will add a little moisture to dry air.

Don’t worry about being wasteful. It uses simple ingredients and creates much less waste than the manufacturing process of store-bought candles or air fresheners.

Plus, you can use apple cores and peels or a bruised apple. You can use the last few Mandarin oranges sitting on your counter, which are getting weird and dry. Or that piece of ginger that’s starting to shrivel up. Don’t tell me that doesn’t happen in your home!

Or, you can use fresh, pretty produce. It works either way!

Ingredients

Mandarin oranges, an apple, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, fresh ginger, peppercorns, and vanilla on a countertop.

This fall simmer pot uses a blend of fruit and spices to create a warm and comforting autumn scent.

  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Cloves
  • Peppercorns
  • Vanilla Extract

Less Waste Substitutions

  • You can use bruised apples, apple cores, and apple peels instead of a prime apple.
  • Use plenty of orange peels instead of a whole orange if you prefer.
  • Use a piece of ginger that is starting to wither.

When to Make it

  • This fall simmer pot is formulated to create a signature fall scent. Make it in autumn to fill your home with the smell of apples, oranges, and warming spices. It smells like pies baking in the oven.
  • Make it when your house needs a fresh scent. If the weather is mild, open a few windows to let the fresh air move the smells through your home.
  • Make it a Thanksgiving simmer pot. It’s a nice way to set the mood at home, especially if you aren’t the host. You can still have the sweet smells circulating in your house if you aren’t cooking dinner.
  • Have a pot simmering when company comes over. They’ll be welcomed with a warm and inviting scent when they walk in the door.
  • Make a simmer pot on a fall evening to make the house extra cozy.
