Avocado Crostini with Assorted Toppings

Avocado crostini loaded with all the best avocado toast toppings but in a bite-sized form. These little toasts look gourmet, taste incredible, and are easy to assemble. Make them for your next get-together to impress your guests!

Crostini, or little toasts, are an Italian antipasto dish. They’re made from thin slices of toasted bread. Check out my crostini guide if you want to learn more!

I’ll show you how to prepare these little toasts in 4 different ways. They make a perfect appetizer. Serve them as part of a brunch spread or for gatherings scheduled early in the day. 

Pro-tip:  You can double or triple this avocado crostini recipe to feed a crowd! Use the 2x or 3x button in the recipe card for easy calculations. You can also halve it to make a smaller batch.

Ingredients

Ingredients for avocado crostini.

A sliced baguette, spread with olive oil and sprinkled with salt, is all you need to make the crostini base.

Spread all the crostini with avocado, lemon juice, and salt.

Then, add mixed toppings for a beautiful presentation.

  1. Classic: Red pepper flakes, flakey sea salt, and cracked black pepper.
  2. Everything Bagel: Everything bagel seasoning.
  3. Lemony Arugula: Arugula, lemon juice, shaved parmesan, salt flakes, and cracked black pepper.
  4. Balsamic & Tomato: Cherry tomatoes, balsamic glaze, and salt flakes. You can make the glaze with Balsamic Vinegar or buy a bottle of store bought.

Bake the crostini

Slice the baguette and arrange the slices on sheet pans. Then, brush both sides of the bread with olive oil. Sprinkle them with salt and bake until golden and crispy.

Prepare the toppings

Then mash the avocado with fresh squeezed lemon juice and salt.

Pro-tip: I bought this stainless steel mighty masher for making baby food but it makes the best avocado masher! I love that it is small enough to fit inside of a small bowl!

Assemble the crostini

First, spread all the crostini with mashed avocado. Then we’ll start adding more toppings.

First up: the classic preparation. Top with red pepper flakes, sea salt flakes, and freshly cracked black pepper.

Now do a few with just a sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning. So simple and so delicious.

Next, let’s make a few with balsamic and tomato. Slice a cherry tomato in half and arrange it on top of the avocado. Then, drizzle with balsamic glaze. Finish it with a pinch of sea salt flakes.

Last, lets top a few with lemony arugula. This one feels so fancy! Add a little mound of the lemony arugula on top of the avocado. Then sprinkle with sea salt flakes and freshly cracked pepper. Last, place a few pieces of shaved parmesan on top.

Pro-tip:  Use a vegetable peeler to shave small, thin pieces of parmesan.

Arrange them on a platter and serve!

Make ahead and storage tips

  • You can bake the crostini up to 3 days ahead. Store the plain crostini in a sealed container at room temperature until ready to top and serve. 
  • It’s best to make the avocado spread and add toppings shortly before serving. If you make them too far in advance, the avocado will brown, and the crostini will get soggy. 

How to serve avocado crostini

These avocado crostini are a perfect option for a brunch spread. They look gourmet but are so easy to prepare! They make great party food or appetizers for daytime events. They’re perfect for baby showers, bridal showers, and bachelorette breakfasts!

Ingredients

For the crostini

  • 1 baguette (fresh or day-old)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar

For the avocado spread

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 of a lemon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

For the lemony arugula

  • 1 cup arugula
  • 1/2 of a lemon

Other toppings

  • 8 cherry tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • 2 tablespoons shaved parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons of everything bagel seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

1. Make the crostini

Preheat oven to 400℉

  • Use a serrated bread knife to slice the baguette into ¼ inch slices. 
  • Lightly brush the fronts and backs of the baguette slices with olive oil. Lay them on baking sheets in a single layer. Sprinkle lightly with kosher salt.
  • Bake at 400℉ for about 8 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  • Cool to room temperature before adding the toppings.

2. Make the avocado spread

  • Scoop the avocado flesh into a small mixing bowl. Juice half of a lemon into the bowl and add ⅛ teaspoon of salt. Use a masher to mash everything together.

3. Make the lemony arugula

  • Place the arugula into a small bowl and juice half of a lemon into the bowl. Toss to combine.

4. Assemble the crostini

First, spread the avocado on all the crostini. Then, make 8-9 crostini with each of the following toppings. 

  • Classic: Top with red pepper flakes, sea salt flakes, and freshly cracked black pepper.
  • Everything Bagel: Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top of the avocado.
  • Lemony Arugula: Place a small mound of lemony arugula on top of the avocado. Then, sprinkle it with sea salt flakes and freshly cracked black pepper. Lastly, add a few pieces of shaved parmesan to the top.
  • Balsamic & Tomato: Slice a cherry tomato in half and arrange it on top. Then, drizzle with balsamic glaze. Finish with a pinch of sea salt flakes.

6. Arrange the avocado crostini on a platter and serve.

Notes

  • You can bake the crostini without toppings up to 3 days ahead. Store the plain crostini in a sealed container at room temperature until ready to top and serve. 
  • Make the avocado spread and add toppings shortly before serving. If you make them too far in advance, the avocado will brown, and the crostini will get soggy. 
  • Use a vegetable peeler to shave thin slices of parmesan.
  • Mix and match the toppings how you like!
