Blueberry Cream Cheese Spread

This blueberry cream cheese spread is light, fluffy, and perfectly spreadable. Try spreading it on bagels or using it as a fruit dip.

I absolutely love a good cream cheese schmear! There was a point in college when about 90% of my diet was Einstein Bros. Bagels on campus. I love just about any flavor (like scallion cream cheese). My berry-loving kids are particularly fond of blueberry cream cheese spread.

It is fluffy, smooth, and creamy. And it remains soft and easy to spread even after refrigeration! Plus, it only requires 4 ingredients and 1 bowl! Add this to your breakfast menu, and thank me later. 🙂

Ingredients

Blueberries, blueberry preserves, sugar, cream, and cream cheese ready to make bagel schmear.
  • Cream cheese softened to room temperature. Regular, full-fat cream cheese will be the creamiest. Bringing the cream cheese to room temperature will make whipping fast and easy.
  • Blueberry preserves give you all the blueberry flavor without making the cream cheese watery. Fresh blueberries tend to lose their juices and make the spread watery.
  • A spoonful of sugar makes it nice and sweet. If you want the blueberry schmear to be less sweet, you can omit the sugar.
  • Heavy cream whipped with the cream cheese makes it light and fluffy. Plus, it helps it remain spreadable.
  • Fresh blueberries are totally optional, but they make a nice topping. They look especially nice if you’re serving this to company or for a holiday breakfast or brunch.

How to Make Blueberry Cream Cheese Spread

First, let the cream cheese soften at room temperature for about an hour.

Then, add the cream cheese, heavy cream, and sugar to a large mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer with the beater attachments to whip the mixture on medium speed until it is light and fluffy.

Add the blueberry preserves and continue to whip until they are incorporated. Use a spatula to scrape down the sides to make sure everything gets mixed in.

Serve immediately, garnished with fresh blueberries. Or refrigerate for later.

Storage

Store in a tightly closed container (a pint deli container works great) for up to a week in the fridge.

How to serve blueberry cream cheese

  • Schmear it on a bagel! This is our favorite way to eat blueberry cream cheese.
  • Use it as a fruit dip.
  • Include it on a bagel board with various other spreads like scallion cream cheese.
  • Or add it as a sweet dip on a charcuterie board.
