This tangy South Carolina mustard BBQ sauce is essential for any barbecue. Try it on smoked brisket, pulled pork, chicken, ribs, or wings. Mustard BBQ sauce is also great on hot dogs, grilled meats, shrimp, and salmon.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Louisiana-style hot sauce
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard (optional)*

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a small pot and stir until combined. Simmer it over medium heat and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Let it cool slightly and transfer it to a container for serving and storing.

Notes

Store it in the fridge in a mason jar or a squeeze bottle for up to 2 weeks.

*You can leave out the ground mustard powder. It adds a nice complexity to the sauce.
